The International Centre on Nurse Migration (ICNM), a knowledge resource centre established by the International Council of Nurses and CGFNS International, Inc., hosted a symposium on “The Global Mobility of Nurses and the Impact of ASEAN and EU Regulation and Recognition Agreements” on June 30 in Singapore at the 2019 ICN Singapore Congress.
The ninety minute session identified the main implications, progress and constraints on nurse recognition and mobility in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region and the European Union (EU), highlighted the key global nurse mobility issues and identified and reflected on countries experiences of nurse stakeholder – education, employment and regulation. The session was moderated by Mr. Howard Catton, Chief Executive Officer of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and was composed of two main speakers and three panelists.
The two main speakers were Dr. Noriko Fujita, Director of the Department of Global Network and Partnership from the Bureau of International Health Cooperation at the National Centre for Global Health and Medicine in Japan and Prof. James Buchan, Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney and Consultant to CGFNS International, Inc.
The three panelists were Dr. Wipada Kunaviktikul, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Nursing at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, Dr. Erlina C. Palaganas, President of the Philippine Nurses Association and Ms. Annie Butler, Federal Secretary at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation.
